The Gustavo de Maeztu Museum presents the exhibition “La huella gráfica” (The Graphic Imprint) by the artist Iñaki Rifaterra

The Gustavo de Maeztu Museum bids farewell to the year 2023 and kicks off 2024 with an exhibition by the artist Iñaki Rifaterra
From 22 December 2023 to 28 February 2024, the Gustavo de Maeztu Museum is bringing together a selection of works by the artist and lithographer from Estella, Iñaki Rifaterra Santamaría, in the temporary exhibition hall.

In this exhibition we can see graphic work and pictorial work, connected through a parallel development of graphic language, from abstraction and from the search for the complicity of materials and tools.

The exhibition is made up of thirty-one pieces. Fifteen of them are original lithographs printed by hand. They belong to different periods from 2012 onwards and have been printed with their masters Don Herbert and Rasmus Urwald in workshops such as Arteleku and Edition Copenhagen respectively; and later in Atelier Estella Lizarra, a lithography studio that Rifaterra opened in our city in 2020 and from where he continues to develop contemporary artistic practice.

The series of lithographs “Itsasaldiak. Travesías” were made in Arteleku (Donostia-San Sebastián) in 2012 and one of the lithographs in the exhibition was made in Copenhagen in 2016, as well as the four lithographs in the series “La casa del tiempo. Denboraren Etxea” have been printed in the new Atelier and transport us to the artist’s most current graphic work.
Traces and movement are the axes through which his works are structured.
The trace implies movement and in this case the images also take us on a journey through the different spaces in which Iñaki Rifaterra has worked. The space-workshop is fundamental to contextualise the work of this artist, which he claims as a place of production and transmission or learning.

In the exhibition we will also have the opportunity to see fifteen pictorial works carried out from 2019 onwards, works that he develops in parallel to the graphic work. “Grafika hiria. City of graphics” and “The tower house. Dorretxea” are two pictorial series that connect us with the artist’s gaze towards our surroundings and our city, from the abstraction of his graphic trace and at some brief moments from the figurative concretion.

The graphic footprint proposes a journey through abstraction, and from the two paths that bring us closer to the graphic language of Iñaki Rifaterra, which starts from the processes of manual stamping and brings us closer to the places he has travelled.
Admission to this exhibition is free and it can be visited from Tuesday to Saturday, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm; Sundays and public holidays, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
