The Gustavo de Maeztu Museum has the “Suggestions” exhibition space at its entrance. A space that temporarily brings together the most striking events related to the world of art.<\/p>\n

In this case, the space hosts the work “Girl with a cat” by the artist Marta D\u00edez.<\/p>\n

Marta D\u00edez (1967, Tudela) has absorbed from childhood a taste for art, instilled by her mother and older siblings and shared and enjoyed by the whole family, which led her to study design and fashion, paying special attention to the handling of drawing and colour.<\/p>\n

She began to paint on fabrics and clothes, eventually choosing natural silk in the form of scarves as a support for her painting, thus combining art and fashion. This fabric is characterised by a unique combination of properties that no other fibre possesses: dry feel, natural shine, good drape qualities, high resistance, it is one of the strongest natural fibres, warmth…
\nThese characteristics make silk a perfect canvas for his designs, which from the outset focus on motifs inspired directly from nature, such as countless butterflies, birds, flowers, fauna and vegetation, which become the perfect vehicle for capturing their shapes and the fascinating and extensive colouring that silk absorbs and reflects like no other material.
\nHe uses traditional techniques such as guta, a type of resin that grows naturally and comes from the Indonesian trees called “Pallaquium”, to delimit the colours that spread very quickly throughout the silk, combining other freer techniques that help him to control such an arbitrary process as silk painting.<\/p>\n

These pieces began with the idea of being fashionable garments for private use. Through personal commissions, Marta received requests for these silk scarves to be framed and exhibited. She held an exhibition at the Mar\u00eda Forcada Foundation in Tudela, exhibiting several of these pieces, but nowadays she only frames scarves on commission, thus combining fashion and art.
\nCurrently, Marta has expanded the subject matter of her silk canvases to include abstract themes, giving them a different approach.<\/p>\n

She aims to combine fashion, art and craftsmanship in these garments that sometimes become canvases, hand-painted, unique and unrepeatable given their characteristics, paying tribute to the slow and lasting fashion made in Spain.<\/p>\n
